Opportunities & Needs

Here are some of the opportunities House of Hope currently has for fulfilling our mission in Honduras. Some of the projects are already funded, but if you would like to donate funds specifically for one of these needs, please contact us.

Ramon Mengivar and Olga Ondina Gonzales

Age: 52 & 48
Pastor: Pastor Melvin Amaya

A porch in the areas of Honduras where we work will typically consist of a dirt floor.

This couple is not married, but has been living together for thirty two years. They have both been faithful to each other. Ramon and Olaga are currently members at an outreach Pastor Melvin’s church started in the community. They have been attending services there for two years. Pastor Melvin is encouraging them to get married.

Ramon does not have a full time job. He travels and is willing to do whatever work he is able to find. He makes about 150 lempiras a day, which is approximately US $6.63 per day. Ramon is 52, Olga is a little younger approximately 48-50 years old.

Ramon and Olga have children. An older daughter died a year ago. She left behind three daughters – ages fourteen, seven, and five.

The second daughter’s husband was hit by a car and died. She also has three daughters – ages ten, five, and two. This daughter moved into her parent’s home because she does not have any other place to live.

Ramon and Olga also have a twenty seven year old daughter who is not married. She is an active member of Pastor Melvin’s church. They also have a sixteen year old son.

Eleven family members live in a house that is approximately 8X30. They survive with the little money Ramon provides, and the ladies also bake bread to sell, and wash laundry for clients.

Currently, Ramon is still in good health but because of the overwhelming needs of his family, House of Hope has decided to build them a home. Typically, House of Hope focuses on the needs of widows and/or orphans who have no source of income. But it is on our hearts to help this family who has endured so much tragedy.

Electrical work is generally done by stringing up bits of wire and connecting them to whatever outlets they can get. Removing shock and fire hazards like these is one of the benefits of getting a family with children into a more modern HoH home.

House of Hope plans to build Ramon and Olga a new home in the fall of 2016, using the HOH1 20X24 Model. During the last building phase this model cost US $3,700 to build.

Ramon & Olga’s new home can be sponsored by an individual, family, or church. If you are interested in sponsoring their home, or would like additional information with regard to their needs - please feel free to contact us.

Norma Elizabeth Santos

Pastor: Pastor Melvin Amaya

Norma in front of her current house.

Norma is the mother of six children. She has one daughter and five sons. She is married, but ten years ago, her husband abandoned the family and moved to Puerto Cortes, Honduras. Sadly, here he started a second family and became an alcoholic.

Norma has a twenty eight year old son with special needs. He is mentally disabled, (possibly is autistic), and sometimes disappears for days. This is always very difficult for Norma and causes much anxiety as she searches for him. Sometimes when he returns to Norma, he is in deplorable condition and is badly beaten or drunk.

Norma has one married son, named Celvin. Celvin is the only child Norma has who is a Christian. He helps Norma and his siblings as much as he is able, but he has his own family to support with limited resources. Celvin is a member of the Inglesia Congregaconal and has an amazing testimony. Celvin’s Pastor, German Pineda, speaks highly of this young man.

Norma recently started attending Pastor Melvin Amaya’s church and Pastor Melvin is very supportive of helping her build a home. (We have worked with Pastor Melvin since House of Hope was founded).

This small concrete room serves as a bathroom for Norma and her family.

Norma lives in a small room, approximately 10X12, which Celvin built for her. Celvin built this little room with different kinds of wood and a metal roof. After her new home is built, Norma could use this area to raise some chickens to provide an income.

House of Hope plans to build Norma a new home in the fall of 2016, using HOH Model 12X24. During the last building phase this model cost US $3,000 to build.

Norma’s new home can be sponsored by an individual, family, or church. If you are interested in sponsoring her home, or would like additional information with regard to her needs - please feel free to contact us.

Reynaldo Rodriguez and Rosa Padila

Age: 62 & 54
Pastor: Pastor Juan Antonio Benitez
Church: Iglesia de Dios

Rosa with two of her daughters

Reynaldo and Rosa are not married but have been living together for the past twenty seven years. While they are not married they are committed and faithful to each other. They are members of the Iglesia de Dios church. Juan Antonio Benitez is their pastor.

Reynaldo is about 62 years old and Rosa about 54 years old. Three of their first children died. They have four living children, ranging from the ages of seventeen to six. The seventeen year old boy works and helps in the house. Reynaldo suffers from a stroke that occurred approximately one year ago and is unable to work well. He doesn’t have any strength in his right hand. His sight is also damaged, he can’t see well with his one eye. He still goes to work and tries to do what he can but his wage is only 100 lempiras per day, US $4.50, because of his limitations.

Their “house” is in deplorable condition. It is really only a shed that is almost ready to collapse. They have no hope to build something better because of Reynaldo’s health.

House of Hope plans to build Reynaldo & Rosa a new home in the fall of 2016, using the HOH2 20X24 Model. During the last building phase this model cost US $3,700 to build.
